Alberta Internet Marketing. Google, Yahoo, and Bing Adwords.
My last few posts have mainly focused on the scam side on online advertising. Today, I’m going to offer some very valuable insights.
There are a few main criteria in determining the success of an online advertising campaign. These criteria are the same criteria for traditional advertising and follow the same AIDA model (attention, interest, desire, action) they are:
1) Creativity – this includes how it is written (also called the copy) and the visual element.
2) Relevance – do the viewers care, are they being targeted properly, and when they click on the ad do they like what comes up (the website to which they are being directed)?
3) Budget – are you spending enough to get high rankings but not so much as to destroy the return on your investment?
So here’s the goods…. And just a reminder, all of these numbers came from one campaign of a specific product.
An 18 day campaign targeted for Lethbridge.
Advertising Provider | Impressions | Clicks | Cost per click | Total Cost |
58,000 | 70 | $0.21 | $14.63 | |
Yahoo | 36,000 | 150 | $0.18 | $26.42 |
321,000 | 182 | $0.31 | $55.88 | |
TOTAL | 415,000 | 402 | $0.24 | $96.93 |
At face value, Yahoo looks to be the best. The warning to all of this is that without proper measurement, you don’t know what you are really getting. Who are the 402 clicks? Do they care about your offer beyond the point of just looking at it?
The next thing that has to be looked at is the traffic analysis. A traffic analysis will tell us if Facebook is worth the extra expense over Yahoo.
